I did a notary last month, and as i was looking through my journal today, i noticed that i did not get a signature on someone requesting a birth certificate. what do i do now? have no idea where this person might be.

Just make an entry in your journal describing the incident so in case you need to testify later on, you will have your notes. This is the exact reason why all loan signers should try to have a “style” which may include a checklist so this doesn’t happen. I’m not trying to beat you up! I’ve done it too. :) Kelly@LoanSigner101.com

Hi before any signature gets my seal I always will take their id and write in my journal, have them sign , thumb print and THEN we get to their business. In my business I always take the thumb :) I think it would be hard to skip the signature if using this system. Yes, I have made errors in other areas. Nobody is perfect. :)

Find your “style” and stick to it. Do the same procedures over and over again. That will prevent this incident from happening again.

I learned from the pro (Thanks Kelly).

I have missed a thumbprint once and a signature once, just because stuff happens. In the past 3 years, I’ve filled 7 journals, so one and one doesn’t seem like it’s too bad considering all the notarizations I’ve done.

Weird places, weird circumstances and strange clients can impact how we do our job.
