Hi, can you please advice if notaries are allowed to notarize a translated birth certificate?

You can notarize a statement from the document custodian or the translator stating that the document is an accurate translation of the original birth certificate.

I recommend using the Certification by Document Custodian for this type of notarization. Have the person signing the Certification fill in the document name and a statement that it is an accurate translation. The more identification information pertaining to the document, the better. (i.e. date of document, document number ~ if any, title of document, etc.)

P.S. ~ If you need a copy of the Certification, please email me at mkosak@cox.net and I will forward you a pdf file containing the Cert.

Wrong, Wrong, Wrong!! First off, you are not allowed to notarize vital documents, primarily birth certificates. Secondly, why would you need to translate the document? You’re not notarizing the document, you’re identifying the signer. The document can be in any language as long as there are no blank spaces and the signer(s) understand what they are signing. DON’T EVER PROVIDE A CERTIFIED COPY OF A BIRTH CERTIFICATE!!

Qweester, there is nothing wrong with notarizing a copy certification for birth certificates or translated birth certificates.

You’re not notarizing the actual birth certificate you’re notarizing the client’s statement regarding the birth certificate. Perfectly legal.
