I have been visiting this site and though I am in my second term of being a Notary I haven’t really done anything at all. Heck, If it wasn’t because my car was stolen with my briefcase in it I wouldn’t have even needed to start my second book. The thing is I have just kept to notarizing docs I am familiar with and unfortunately when I was in doubt there was really no one I could come up to and ask so therefore I would pass and send them elsewhere. I have tried advertising in my son’s school, my parish bulletin but NOT ONE call. I am also a bit sensitive (I don’t know if that is the work) but I work at a Church and have had elderly parishioners who need something notarized and ask me and by the time I do go and notarize, I don’t charge them! Talk about being nice or…... stupid?

Anyway, I have gotten these mailers from NNA all the time to take a Signing Agent class and someone once told me I din’t need a class, I just needed experience. However I am not sure on that. I of course would want to have a title or something that Companies would actually trust me with their paperwork. Any information you could give me would be GREATLY appreciated!

I have seen outrageous prices for Signing classes, so I would like to go to a class that has realistic prices. If anyone could tell me where they took the class and the fee?

Also, once you become a Signing Agent, does that mean you have to buy a NEW seal? Or do you continue with your original one?

Thanks in advance and sorry for so many questions, but thankfully this time I DO have someone to ask for help!

My preference is Notaryclasses.com. At least two of their instructors post here on occasion. Kelly Robertson is an awesome instructor, so is Joan. I don’t work for the company, I have taken both my notary and signing agent class through www.Notaryclasses.com.

The individual who told you that taking the Signing Agent is not required is correct. However, you sound as if you want to be able to claim the title and taking the class would be required for that.

There are other ways to get the experience. I am one of several loan signing coaches you can find online. Feel free to visit my site and I highly recommend you visit Kelly’s site and NotaryClasses.com.

Jessica, I’ve also taken Joan and Kelly’s classes. They are great instructors who in addition the classes being informative, the classes are also fun and entertaining. It is true, you do not have to take signing agent classes to become a signing agent. Experience is preferred over a “certification”. However, most who take the class are those who have no real estate or lending background/experience. So for them, the class gives them to tools they need to understand notarizing loan documents. Notaryclasses.com has a Workshop that can give you practical hands-on experience notarizing all types of regular docs using sample docs and fake stamps. Then afterwards, the Loan Signing workshop does the same thing – lets you practice notarizing all types of loan docs with fake loan docs and fake notary stamps.

In answer to your question about a new seal after becoming a signing agent – notarizing is notarizing, whether it is loans docs or non-loan docs. You still do the same basic thing which is identify the signer, watch them sign and enter the info in your journal. No, you do not need a new seal. I too recommend the live, classroom signing agent course through notaryclasses.com and the Workshop through them.
